Bout Recap 8/11/12

This was the last home bout of the 2012 season with the Paper Valley Roller Girls. This was a big bout as PVRG All-Stars (#22NC) took on the North Star Super Novas (#18NC) and the Smackers played against their derby brothers the Milwaukee Blitzdkrieg. Plus we raised canned goods for the St. Patrick’s Food Pantry of Green Bay.

The night started with a mixer as the PVRG Flying Squirrels got mixed with players from Peoria, Illinois and Escanaba, Michigan into a black and white team. The bout started with a quick 4 points for the Black Team from PVRG’s Bawlz and then the White Team responded back with a 5 point jam from Peoria’s Pixie Whiplash. The score stayed relatively close until the last two jams as White scored 10 point and Black scored 0 leaving the score White 51 – Black 39 at the end of the half. The White Team started with some good momentum in the second-half as PVRG’s BananaRamya scored a 19 point power jam leaving the score 74-48. The Black Team’s Devilish Vixen shaved off White’s lead with a 14 point jam with a score of 77-62. BananaRamya was on a scoring spree with a 9 point and 10 point jam scoring 51 of the 61 points by the White Team. The final score of the game was White 112 – 93 Black.

To begin the second-half we had a special guest as Green Bay’s Mayor Jim Schmitt aka “Tough Schmitt” blew the first whistle for the Paper Valley All-Star bout. With the recent releasing of WFTDA’s 2nd quarter ranking, PVRG is ranked #22 in the North Central region and North Star Supernovas ranked #18. The bout started well for PVRG as their blockers Loredai Killmore, Blazin’ Britches, and Amanda Spank held the Supernovas to be scoreless for the first 7 jams. PVRG had a commanding lead of 34-0. North Star’s Katrina Hit did have a big 14 point jam, but was quickly diminished by T-Racer’s 13 point jam ending the first-half with PVRG leading 66-40. The second-half was pretty even for both teams as PVRG earned lead jam for 13 times and North Star 10 times. PVRG was able to capitalize on some big jams as Neva scored a 15 point power jam increasing the lead to 91-44. T-Racer had a strong half scoring 24 of PVRG’s 65 points. The Paper Valley All-Stars had a #dominated the game with an upset and a final score of 131-78.

Last bout of the night was the Smackers against the Milwaukee Blitzdkrieg. This was an historic bout as this was the first time the two teams played each other and the beginning of a competitive rivalry . The beginning of the bout was very low scoring as the score was 9-8 Blitzdkrieg at the end of the 7th jam. Things started to pick up for the Smackers as PK Pantysnatcher scored 9 points, Shock Strap scored 12 points, and BS scored 17 points. The Smackers lead the game 46-15. The Blitzdkrieg was fighting hard as D-Rek scored a 10 point jam, slimming the Smackers lead 55-27. Shock Strap scored another 9 points and Tim Mature had a 15 point power jam ending the first-half Smackers 72 – Blitzdkrieg 33. The Blitzdkrieg was hungry for the win as Bear Kylls and Ben Hurt scored a 12 and 11 point jam early in the second half with a score 89-64. Pk Pantysnatcher didn’t let the point margin get any closer as he scored 43 points in his next three jams. The exciting bout ended with a final score of 174-92 for the Smackers.

It was not just a good night on the track, as the Smackers and PVRG collected 5 bags of canned goods and raised $175 for the St. Patrick’s Food Pantry of Green Bay. The Green Bay Press Gazette wrote an article about us the following day.

City Alderman Brian Danzinger aka “Mr. Danger Zone” had to skate 25 laps for the $175 raised for the food pantry

Thank you to the refs, volunteers, and fans for supporting us at the bout. A big thanks to the Paper Valley Roller Girls for all of their support this season as we’re looking forward to our first season in the MRDA (Men’s Roller Derby Association) in 2013.

Wrestlers Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan showed up at the after party
