You thought Green Bay and Chicago had a big rivalry when it comes to football, well now there’s one for roller derby.
This was the first triple-header with the Paper Valley Roller Girls and the first home bout in Green Bay for the 2012 season.
The evening started with the Paper Valley Flying Squirrels. With some recent big wins, their confidence was high but Team Unicorn of Madison became their biggest challenge yet. Team Unicorn won 314-45.
Paper Valley’s All Stars played against the Dairyland Dolls of Madison. Earlier in March the All Stars played against the Reservoir Dolls, one of the Mad Rollin Dolls home teams, and the All Stars were familiar how Madison played and was ready for a hard-fighting match. The first half was really exciting as Paper Valley had a quick start with a 15 point jam from Pissy Pistol but Madison quickly pull ahead with a score of 72-43. In the second half Paper Valley was running into penalty trouble, and Madison’s defense was not making it easy for the PVRG jammers to get through the pack. Plus PVRG’s blocker/jammer Swiss Miss, was expelled in the second-half. The Dairyland Dolls won with a final score of 218 to 62.
The last bout of the night was the Smackers versus the Chicago Blues Brothers. This was the Bruisers first official bout. One of the star players from the Bruisers is Justice Feelgood Marshall, who is well known as a player in men’s roller derby. The Smackers defense was giving Chicago’s jammers a real hard time as they had to get through B.S., Ctrl+Alt+Destroy, and Attractive Nuisance. Smackers jammers PK Pantysnatcher, POW!der, and Shock Strap fought through the packs obtaining lead jammer for a majority of the bout, preventing Chicago to score. Chicago scored 3 points for most of the first half and didn’t score until the last jam of the half on a power jam as Green Bay was up 119-16. The second-half the Bruise Brothers played hard the whole time but the Smackers didn’t let up with a final score of 187 to 39.
Thank you to the Bruise Brothers, Dairyland Dolls, and Team Unicorn for skating with us. Thank you to the refs, NSOs, and volunteers that traveled to help us out. Our next home bout is Saturday July 14th against the Bisman Bomberz.
