GREEN BAY, WI – Local men’s roller derby league, the Green Bay Smackers is hosting the Milwaukee Blitzdkrieg Saturday August 11th at the Cornerstone Community
Ice Center, 1640 Fernando Drive in De Pere.
The evening begins with the Paper Valley Flying Squirrels in a mixer with other roller derby skaters from Wisconsin and Illinois, followed by the Paper Valley All-Stars against North Star Roller Girls of Minneapolis, Min. The final match is the Green Bay Smackers against the Milwaukee Blitzdkrieg.
Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and starts at 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door, and $20 All You Can Drink Ticket. Fans can get $1 of a general admission ticket or $5 off the All You Can Drink Ticket if they bring two canned goods. Canned goods will go to St. Patrick’s Food Pantry of Green Bay. Players of the Green Bay Chill (lingerie football) will be at the bout giving away free prizes and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt will be blowing the first whistle at the bout.
The Green Bay Smackers is Northeast, Wis men’s roller derby team and a member of the Men’s Roller Derby Association (MRDA), the first official men’s roller derby league. The Smackers started in November 2010, by David Konshak (Attractive Nuisance) who coaches for the Paper Valley Roller Girls (PVRG ).
The Paper Valley Roller Girls was established in 2008 and is the most competitive women’s roller derby team in Northeast, WI. PVRG is a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and is currently ranked #22 in the WFTDA’s North Central region.
Both the Smackers and PVRG are currently recruiting new skaters, referees and volunteers. All skill levels are welcome.
