Rolling Along the River Recap

The Smackers finished their first season in Sioux City for the 4th annual Rolling Along the River tournament.  It was very exciting with a whole day of derby and two new Smackers, Speed DevAl and Bearmageddon, making their bout debut.

The first bout was against MRDA‘s 7th ranked, Your Mom’s Roller Derby from Des Moines, Iowa.  The Smackers put up a good fight, but Your Mom ended up victorious 196-39.

The second bout was against the Kornstalkers from Sioux City.  Smackers had the lead for the whole first half, but the Kornstalkers were able to take the lead halfway through the second half.  Smackers regained the lead with a 20 point power jam by POW!der.  The score went back and forth and at the last jam the score was tied at 84.  The Kornstalkers jammer obtained lead jam, but Smackers jammer BS (which means Bart Starr according to one of the announcers) was right behind him.  As the Kornstalkers jammer called the jam off the Kornstalkers scored one point, and the Smackers…3!  Smackers won their first bout 87-85.  It was the closest match in the whole tournament.

The third match was against the Race City Rebels, which the Smackers played in August.  After two hard fought bouts the Rebels had a little more energy then the Smackers, winning 176-41.

A great experience for the Smackers as they’re heading into the off-season and will have a full schedule of bouts starting in March.  Thank you to everyone for their support in our first year, especially the Paper Valley Roller Girls for all of your help.  The next round of beers is on Nuisance.
